So I've been working on my patio...

...which is a lot of hard work, but I enjoy it so. The entire patio area has to be dug out, then a layer of gravel has to be poured in and leveled, then a bed of sand has to go on top of that, leveled and tamped down before you put down the pavers. Quite the effort, but well worth it.

However, my girlfriend had some issues with my choice of bricks I was about to put down. She was concerned about their condition, whether or not they've been used before, etc. Since I had a good-sized brick with me, I pulled it out and showed it to her. At first she was a little frightened at the sheer size of my brick, but then informed me that although she's seen larger bricks, she was accustomed to much smaller ones. I assured her that the size of the brick wasn't as important as how well it was laid...she just said, "yeah, sure."

Then she started in on how old my brick looked, and why there was so much moss on it. I tried to explain that the moss wouldn't affect its performance, but she just said, "maybe, but I'M still the one that's gotta look at it." Fine. So I cleaned off as much of the moss as I could...which made the brick look bigger, but also exposed all the damage that's happened to it over the years. She then informed me that she wanted nothing to do with a brick that's been tumbled so many times.

We finally reached an agreement when I informed her that this would be the last bed this brick would lay in, and that even though the brick may get mossy, I'll do my best to keep it free of bugs. She seemed to appreciate that.

Next summer I'm thinking of building a cage for my rooster.
